My husband pointed out that it’s technically not the end of the decade, but since we’re flipping the calendar from the teens to the 20’s I thought it would be interesting to look back over my last 10 years on earth. Also as my new year’s gift, I’m sharing a few free downloadable travel quotes – inspiration for the new year.
Looking Back – Highs and Lows
This decade has been one with the highest highs and the lowest lows. I lost some remarkable humans that were most precious to me, which made for some rough seasons. Other members of my family experienced devastating losses, that made my heart ache. My husband and I moved across the country to a place where we had never been before and we knew almost no one, which was a huge leap of faith.
I had some great jobs and met awesome people at wonderful organizations. Now I’ve taken the brave step of working for myself.
Travel is the Only Thing You Buy That Makes You Richer
I also experienced some life-changing adventures throughout the decade, many of which I still need to write about on my blog. I visited these places:
- Croatia – before it became THE place to go
- War-torn Bosnia and the gorgeous Stari-Most Bridge
- Amazing Amsterdam, the Netherlands with its tranquil canals and rich culture
- Istanbul and Antalya Turkey – Istanbul was one of the most intense visits I’ve ever had
- Jerusalem, Galilee, Nazareth and more in Israel – the deep Biblical history of this area is profound.
- Amman Jordan – Could be the worst and most chaotic traffic I’ve ever seen.
- Scotland – I had no idea I would fall in love with every corner that we visited – St. Andrews, Edinburgh, Oban, Loch Ness, Aberfeldy, Pitlochry…
- Ireland – Visiting the land where my husband’s ancestors lived was a trip we had been dreaming about for years.
- France – I can’t wait to go back to Paris, Giverny, the Normandy region and beyond
- Germany – My first trip to Europe decades ago was a work-related trip to Germany. I’m so glad I had a chance to go back, but there’s still so much to see.
- I won’t even go into all the new places we’ve seen in the U.S.A. in the past 10 years.
Through these 10 years, I’ve learned so much more about myself and the world around me. I became aware of serious mistakes that I made and have hopefully learned from them and made attempts to change. I’ve become convinced that God loves me no matter what I do or how many mistakes I make. That brings me the most comfort and hope for the next decade.
Adventure is Waiting
As I look forward to the coming decade, I’m excited about new adventures of all kinds. My blog is growing and I plan to introduce a brand new site design, free downloadable travel tools, giveaways and other fun ideas this year and into the future. I have dreams of tons of travel both at home in the U.S. and abroad. We’ll be moving back out West at some point in the coming decade so we hope to make the most of our time on the East Coast while we’re here.
I’m so thankful that you’re part of this community and trust that you can also look forward to the coming year with hope for better tomorrows. As my new year’s gift, I’m sharing a few travel quotes – inspiration for you to step out of your comfort zone and explore new places. Whether its around the corner or around the world, I think you’ll find it’s well worth the time and effort. Happy New Year!
