About Me

Hi, I’m Nancy Hann, an adventurer at heart in search of meaningful travel, a connector of people, a creative spirit, lifelong learner, travel blogger, and lover of all that is beautiful.

I’ve been blogging about my travel and life adventures for over a decade now. I’m thrilled that this site is helping people feed their souls through exploration, creativity, and lifelong learning. It all began with a seed of inspiration to combine several passions.

I Like Variety

Over the years I’ve lived on the quiet shores of Lake Erie, in the desert capital of Arizona, amidst the bustling cities of Southern California, and near the historical sites and abundant waters of Southeastern Virginia. I realize that I feel most alive when I can witness the magic of nature, variety of the changing seasons, and experience new corners of the world.

I’m also proud to say that I’ve been married for more than a few decades to a precious man who loves and puts up with me, even on my worst days. He is my favorite travel companion. We have two awesome, creative adult children along with their partners, and four mischievous grand-cats, who are all discovering the world in their own new ways. My husband, Terry recently retired and we’re so excited to be able to start traveling more.

I’ve had “day jobs” at a wide variety of places. Working for organizations like Microsoft, Marriott, California Institute of the Arts, and the Phoenix Suns NBA Basketball team. I’ve worked in everything from small non-profits to worldwide conglomerates. I love the variety, learning new things, and taking on new challenges. Now I have the privilege of putting my lifelong skills to work while focusing on travel blogging and writing full time and I LOVE it.

Here are just a few reasons why I started Traveling with Purpose.

I Love to Travel

One of my bucket list items is to visit each of the 63 National Parks in the U.S. and I’ve made it to more than half of the parks so far, plus dozens more National Historic Landmarks and Battlefield Sites, National Monuments, National Lakeshores, and Seashores.

Outside the U.S. I’ve traveled to Turkey, Bosnia, Croatia, Canada, Mexico, Scotland, the Netherlands, France, Germany, Israel, Jordan, and Ireland (so far). I have some catching up on posts about these places.

We recently moved back to Arizona after living on the East Coast for several years. I’m excited to get reacquainted with the state where I’ve spent the biggest chunk of my life. The one that I’ve fallen in love with over the years.

The World is Full of Adventure

I love sharing the joy of discovery with others. It’s truly amazing what enriching experiences you can find in every corner of the world if you just take the time to look.

As of this moment, I’ve visited every state in America except North Dakota. (I guess it’s just not on the way to anywhere.) In 2021, Terry and I went on a 10-week cross-country road trip that was fantastic! In fact, I’ve been so busy traveling that I’ve fallen behind on writing about it. I’ll catch up though, I promise.

Help Others Enjoy Lifelong Learning

Shouldn’t we all be lifelong learners? If not, life gets pretty static and boring. I hope you enjoy the art of discovery, uncovering amazing little-known places, and finding enriching experiences at home and through your travels.

One of the reasons I keep this blog going is to help you feed your soul. I hope to introduce you to the abundance of magical places in this wonderful world of ours through traveling with a purpose.

I’ll also introduce you to creative entrepreneurs that want to share their passions with you. They share through unique events like photography workshops, cooking classes, walking tours, hands-on art courses and so much more. Sometimes these offerings are hard to find in a normal online search, but my hope is that you’ll follow my blog as I gather and share about unique adventures at your next destination.

I’d love your insights too. If you visit an interesting destination, take a creative class while traveling, or discover an awesome tour, restaurant, or place to stay, I’d love to hear about it. If you’re a travel provider that offers tours, classes, or workshops for lifelong learners and you’re interested in sharing about your work, contact me. I’d love to partner with you to get the word out about your services.
