Travel Quotes – Let’s Coddiwomple

I’m starting to work on a collection of inspirational and travel quotes that can be downloaded and shared online. Here’s one that I love, with a story to go with it.

Wandering in Scotland

When I think about coddiwompling, my trip to Scotland immediately comes to mind. In many of the towns we visited, we had a particular place that we wanted to see, but then set about wandering around before and after our target destination. It was our first time in Scotland and we fell in love with the country. We discovered some truly magical places.

For example, while driving from Oban to Aberfeldy one day we came across this stately old home stranded by low tide. Two small boats appear to be strategically placed to transport the owners from either side of the water when tides are high. We loved the drastic shift of the tides in Scotland. In Oban this time of year, there’s a difference of over 10 feet between high and low tide. I’ll bet that takes some careful scheduling for fishermen and other boaters to get where they want to go.

Minutes after seeing the stranded manor, we witnessed this gorgeous rainbow! Just wish we could have gone to the island to look for the pot of gold. Oh wait. The gold’s in Ireland.
